Rare surgery performed on heart patients in Care hospital

Hyderabad: In a complication after the surgery, doctors found out that a 40-year-old patient from Khammam had serious complications in the stents. The patient had to undergo angioplasty after having a heart attack. After two months of surgery, the patient developed fever and shortness of breath which worsened over time. The patient was transferred to Care Hospital in Nampally, Hyderabad. After a few tests, doctors revealed that the patient’s condition was life – threatening.

A team of doctors led by dr. Raja Sekhara Rao, chief cardiothoracic transplant surgeon, and dr. BKS Sastry, a consultant cardiologist, assessed the patient. An infection in the stents was considered and further examination was done by performing a CT angiogram and MRI. The test results confirmed the infection and coagulation of the stents. There was also a form of abscess over the heart with severe dysfunction of the right and left heart. Dr. Raja Sekhara Rao said that “patients with an infection in the stents are very rare and can be fatal.”

According to dr. Rao was used as an ultrasound imaging test to detect the exact location of the stent and was safely removed using the beat-heart technique. The pus around the heart was drained and a coronary bypass operation was performed using the internal breaststroke. This rare operation was successful and the patient was discharged after recovery. The doctors are in contact with the patient for further help through medication.
