Gurgaon: For diagnosis and treatment of patients who develop complications after recovering from Covid, health minister
Anil Vij has announced
post-Covid clinics at all government and major private hospitals across the state.
The centres called
Umang will have doctors, physiotherapists and yoga instructors, the minister said on Friday.
“We will be launching these centres across the state on Monday. It will be a one-stop facility for the patients who have recovered from Covid but still have
health issues,” Vij said, adding that the clinics will operate from all government and major private hospitals in the state.
Apart from specialists to treat respiratory and neurological problems, the state government will deploy physiotherapists, psychologists and yoga instructors at these centres, he said.
Senior director, Institute of Digestive and Hepatobiliary Sciences, Medanta, Rajesh Puri, said post-Covid care is an important aspect when it comes to rehabilitation of patients, particularly those who had severe symptoms. “The disease can affect a person’s lifestyle. About 10% patients may remain unwell for more than three weeks after testing negative. Treatment should include respiratory rehabilitation, physiotherapy and care for complications like thromboembolic episodes (clotting in blood vessels) and other infections,” he said.
Post-Covid complications may include breathing trouble, chest pain, heart ailments, joint pain and memory loss.
Ramanjit Singh, senior consultant dermatologist, Medanta, said: “In many patients, skin rashes are seen that require treatment and may take up to two weeks to heal.” Speaking about the black fungus, another post-Covid complication affecting several people, Vij said that there are 258 such cases in Haryana.
The minister added that the health department is keeping a close watch on Covid hospitals and strict action will be taken against those who are overcharging. Officials in the district administration have been asked to check the illegal sale of medical equipment and drugs and initiate the legal action against offenders, Vij said.
