ULFA(I) releases abducted ONGC employee in Nagaland, 2 were rescued earlier by Army

Three employees of the public sector company Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) were kidnapped by armed militants of the United Liberation Front of Assom-Independent (ULFA-I) from a rig site in Assam`s Sivasagar district on April 21.

ULFA (I) militants released abducted ONGC employee Ritul Saikia in Myanmar near the border with Nagaland on Saturday morning. A top official of the Assam Police Headquarters said that Saikia was abducted by the militants on 21 April and he was released this morning near the border of Longwa village in the Mon district of Nagaland.

The officer said that Saikia was released towards the Myanmar border at around seven in the morning and walked on foot for about 40 minutes to enter the Indian state. "The army and Nagaland police took Saikia to the Mon police station," he said. A team of Assam Police is also present there and is completing the formalities to bring them back home. `

The Indian Army along with Assam Rifles troops rescued two of the three ONGC in the general area of Mon in Nagaland on 24 April.

The banned United Liberation Front of Assam (Independent) announced a one-way ceasefire for three months given the prevailing situation of Covid-19 in Assam. ULFA (I) commander-in-chief Paresh Barua said in an e-mailed statement to the media that the ceasefire would be effective immediately and the organization would refrain from any operations during these three months.
