KOLKATA: The Mamata Banerjee government will vaccinate all bank employees and officers who have yet to be inoculated. There are over 50,000-odd bank employees in the state, including a few thousand casual staffers. A bank official said the district administrations have been advised to coordinate through lead bank managers (LDM) to facilitate vaccination of bankers, including contractual workers. In Kolkata, KMC will arrange for their vaccination at designated centres.
Bank unions have hailed the initiative.
General secretary of SBI Officers Association Subhojyoti Chatterjee said they were thankful to the state for the initiative. “As far as I know, the respective lead banks in districts will coordinate,” he said. According to him, around 30%-40% of bank employees have been vaccinated.
President of AIBEA Rajen Nagar and former deputy chief secretary of SBI Staff Association Ashok Mukherjee also welcomed the state decision.
