Patna: Man hacks son, daughter to death, surrenders at police station

PATNA: A man allegedly hacked his minor son and daughter to death while they were sleeping at Kanhaipur village under Mokama police station area in Patna on Friday.
The incident took place a day after his wife Veena Devi lodged an FIR against Kamaldev Prasad alias Chandan (30), a daily wager, over domestic violence and dowry.
The deceased kids were identified as Ankit Kumar (6) and Alisha (3).
Police said that Chandan used to suspect that his wife had relations with several other men.
They said he had attacked Veena on May 16 with a sharp-edged object but she managed to escape.
She reached her parental house in Kakan village in Jamui but could not take her children with her, a police officer said.
He said after murdering his children, Chandan reached the police station on a bicycle at around 5am and surrendered before the cops.
“He directly approached the officer on duty informing that he had come to surrender. He told the police he had killed his children whose bodies were inside his home,” he said.
“Bodies of Ankit and Alisha were found lying side by side in a pool of blood on the bed on which they were sleeping. Their throats were slit with a sharp-edged weapon. It was recovered later on Chandan’s confession,” the officer said.
Chandan told police that he murdered his kids at around 2am.
The officer said that after murdering the kids, Chandan locked the house and left.
“Incidentally, he was stopped by a patrolling party on the highway at around 4am but he avoided suspicion.
Chandan told them he was daily wager and was returning home after getting stuck in rain,” the officer said.
The officer said that after the arrest, Chandan alleged that Veena had a bad character and she had even taught the children not to address him as their father.
“I didn’t have any reputation left in the village after all this. Thus, I finally killed them both,” Chandan told police.
He said Veena reached Mokama with family members and lodged an FIR against Prasad for killing their children.
