IAF`s MIG-21 crashes near Punjab`s Moga, pilot`s body found 2 Kms away

Indian Air Force`s MiG-21 Bison fighter plane crashed in the Moga district of Punjab on Thursday night, killing pilot squadron leader Abhinav Chaudhary. The aircraft was on a routine training sortie when the accident occurred near Langeana Kalan village, about 24 km from the Moga district headquarters.

Officials said the pilot was returning to Suratgarh airport in Rajasthan after training. A police officer said that the body of the pilot was found about two kilometres from the accident site.

The statement said that the Court of Inquiry has been ordered to find out the cause of the accident.

Currently, the cause of the accident has not been known. The accident happened around 11.30 pm on Thursday night, in morning the Air Force team searched and found the pilot`s corpse. The Air Force has mourned the death of the pilot and orders have been given to investigate the accident.

Squadron leader Abhinav Chaudhary broke his neck after falling from the aircraft. SP Head Quarter Gurdeep Singh said that the aircraft fell into the fields 500 meters away from the houses of village Langeana Kalan, resulting in no loss of life or property.

There was an aircraft accident last night involving a Bison aircraft of IAF in the western sector. The pilot, Sqn Ldr Abhinav Choudhary, sustained fatal injuries. IAF condoles the tragic loss and stands firmly with the bereaved family.

According to villagers, the plane was sunk about five feet inside the ground. The aircraft debris was spread over a hundred feet and the entire plane was burnt. After seeing the rear side of the aircraft, they came to know that it is an Air Force aircraft.
