Vu’s book is a brilliant read that will inspire kids to do a good deed daily. “Being kind and being the light”—a simple yet admirably great reminder for the little ones to remember.

Kindness is a wonderful way to battle evil—almost magical as it vanishes hate with love, violence with mercy, misery with comfort, and chaos with peace. It gives sunshine into people’s lives no matter what the weather. Peter Vu’s The Adventure with My Blanky “Mylar”: Story of a Little Country Boy and His Magical Journey with His Blanky and Friends is a testament to how compassion can trump against evil with the help of your family and friends. Vu was inspired to write the story after he watched the news about children being separated or taken away from their parents by the new Immigration policy. It was unfortunate for the children that they have to suffer, to feel frightened and sad to be away from their families. This short yet powerful story shares values like family, friendship, humanity, and one that’s filled with passion and purpose.

The book revolves around a young boy named Juan, who was raised and born in a small country called Belize, near the South Pole. Although he doesn’t know the whereabouts of his father, Juan has a loving, caring, and gentle mother, Maria who always tells him to be kind and be the light when treating others. As Christmas comes, Maria wrapped a simple gift to Juan—a present that will surely bring him to grand and magical adventures. As he opens the box, it’s a cozy quilt blanket sewn together by many pieces of cloths. With different shapes and colors as it seems, the blanket holds magical power. His mother spent months sewing the gift, and Juan loves it as it feels so soft and wonderful. He fondly brings his blanket every day, anywhere, and names it as “Mylar”, and soon tied it around his neck to become like a superman. Little did he know, the blanky Mom gave him will change his life and will help others bring the light of hope.

Vu’s book is a brilliant read that will inspire kids to do a good deed daily. “Being kind and being the light”—a simple yet admirably great reminder for the little ones to remember. Not only that, the book teaches us to stand up against all kinds of evil in the world, to fight and still choose kindness against all odds. The author dedicates this story to the unfortunate and disadvantaged children around the world, especially to the ones who were caught in the 2018 immigration mayhem (southern border of America).
