Punjab records 191 Covid deaths, 5,566 new cases

CHANDIGARH: Punjab recorded 191 Covid-19 deaths and added 5,566 new cases on Thursday. So far, the viral infection has caught 5,23,423 people and claimed 12,716 lives in the state. There are 407 patients in a critical condition on ventilator support, 7,613 are on oxygen support and 1,133 are in level-III critical care facilities.
Ludhiana reported the highest number of fresh Covid-19 cases in the state on Thursday at 784, followed by Bathinda (604), Mohali (467), Muktsar (417), Jalandhar (382), Patiala (359) and Amritar (343) among the leading districts. The positivity rate during the day was 7.04%.
In additon, 63,393 people were vaccinated across Punjab. Of the total, 60,599 eligible beneficiaries were given the first shot, and 2,794 received their second dose. A total of 26,548 persons in the 18-44 years age groups were vaccinated with the first dose in the state on Thursday, taking the total to 2,50,361. Atotal of 44,17,792 persons have been vaccinated till date.
