Odisha registers highest single-day spike of 12,523 new COVID-19 cases

Bhubaneswar: Odisha registered 12,523 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally in the state to 6,68,422. The active caseload in the state now stands at 1,09,438. Out of the 12,523 new infections, 7,012 were reported from quarantine centres while 5,511 persons contracted the virus locally. This incidentally is the highest single-day spike in Covid-19 cases in Odisha.

The state also reported 27 new fatalities. This incidentally is also a record and took the toll tally in Odisha to 2,430 as per a tweet of the Health and Family Welfare department. Out of the 27 fresh fatalities, Khurda (including three from Bhubaneswar) and Koraput districts reported four each; Nuapada, Rayagada and Sundargarh districts (three each); Kalahandi (two); Bargarh, Bolangir, Boudh Gajapati, Jharsuguda, Nabarangpur, Puri and Subarnapur districts (one each).

Khurda district registered the highest number of new COVID-19 cases with 1,842 persons testing positive for the disease. It was followed by Cuttack with 1,084 new infections.

Other districts that reported new COVID-19 cases are: Angul (930), Sundargarh (715), Puri (568), Mayurbhanj (546), Balasore (510), Kalahandi (491), Jajpur (419), Sambalpur (400), Nabarangpur (383), Jharsuguda (373), Ganjam (369), Boudh (365), Jagatsinghpur (325), Rayagada (321), Bargarh and Nayagarh (315 each), Bolangir (296), Koraput (233), Keonjhar (232), Subarnapur (202), Kendrapara (195), Bhadrak (177), Dhenkanal (132), Nuapada (129), Deogarh (106), Kandhamal (100), Malkangiri (73) and Gajapati (53).

The State Pool reported 324 new cases in the last 24 hours. These are persons who have come from outside Odisha and have tested positive

A total of 1,11,80,649 swab samples have been cumulatively tested so far in the state. The number of new recoveries stands at 9,870 in the last 24 hours.
