GURUGRAM: The city continues to face shortage of Covid-19 vaccines. It has at present stocks for one more day. This means if Gurugram doesn’t receive any fresh consignment, government facilities in Gurugram may not be inoculating anyone this weekend.
On Friday, the city plans to conduct vaccinations at 16 session sites for the 18-44 age group and 37 session sites for the 45-plus population. Other than government setups, only two private hospitals — Max and Fortis — are carrying out the Covid vaccination drive in Gurugram at present.
“We are planning to hold eight session sites each for Covishield and Covaxin for the 18-44 population. At the 37 session sites for the 45-plus, both first and second doses will be allowed,” said Dr Virender Yadav, chief medical officer, Gurugram.
“We have only one day’s stock left and if we don't get more vaccines, we will have to stop the drive this weekend or conduct a very few sessions,” said Yadav.
The health department has no information on when they will receive the vaccine next.
Meanwhile on Thursday, a total of 5,147 recipients in the 18-44 age bracket got their first jabs in the city. Of these, 4,018 were vaccinated at private hospitals and 1,129 at government facilities. A total of 975 people in the 45-plus age group also got vaccinated.
“We are aware that several people who don’t have access to mobile phones or the internet are unable to get themselves registered and thus are failing to get a slot. We are working to create a new mechanism for them,” said Yadav.
