Title-chasing SSE Airtricity League side Sligo Rovers have been handed a 3-0 win over Waterford FC after the Munster outfit failed to field a team for their recent Premier Division fixture.
The 'win' sees Sligo jump up to second place in the table, five points behind the reigning champions Shamrock Rovers.
The Premier Division's bottom side Waterford - who have installed Marc Bircham as their new manager since the walkover - failed to field a team for the May 15 match due to a Covid-19 outbreak in their camp.
In the previous week, following the FAI's Covid guidelines, the club had to stand their first team down and instead sent their Under-19 side into battle with Drogheda United which resulted in a 7-0 defeat for the Blues.
With a relegation fight on their hands and goal difference being crucial, Waterford decided to take the 'walkover' option against Sligo.
A FAI statement read: "Sligo Rovers have been awarded a 3-0 win over Waterford FC after the away side failed to fulfil their SSE Airtricity Premier Division fixture on May 15th following a COVID issue within the club.
"The Premier Division League table will be updated accordingly."
