DONGKAMUKAM, May 21: Karbi Anglong A’chik Cultural Society (KAACS) on Friday expressed its gratitude towards the chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for the elevation of MLA Numal Momin to the post of deputy speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly.

Momin, who represents 17-Bokajan constituency, hails from the Garo community in Karbi Anglong.

“It’s a historic decision taken by the state BJP to nominate a tribal MLA for the post of deputy speakers of Assam Legislative Assembly. We, especially the A’chik (Garo) community of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong will remember this decision for ages and it shall be written down in the pages of history in golden words,” KAACS president Niharson Sangma said in a congregation held at its headquarters at Satgaon in West Karbi Anglong on Friday.

“The decision is an honourable one,” said Peter Marak, another member of the organisation.

The organisation also expressed gratitude towards the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) chief executive member (CEM) Tuliram Ronghang for his support towards this development.

The people of the community expressed their joyfulness as soon as the state BJP nominated Momin for the deputy speaker’s post.
