If you were thinking Snap was done making glasses, it has announced the newest offering. It is called Snap Spectacles 4.0 which comes with in-built AR displays. It is the fourth generation of Spectacles but unlike previous ones, it is not available for the general public for purchase.
This is the first Snap Spectacles that comes with support for augmented reality. These are currently aimed at AR effect content creators who want to push the limits of immersive AR experiences. It will be selecting these creators through an application process but has not revealed the exact number yet.
Evan Spiegel, CEO of Snap, showcased a Spectacles 4.0 demonstration to give a glimpse of what to expect. He showed himself playing fetch with a virtual dog. The other AR experience showed a bunch of butterflies fluttering around and one of them landed on his stretched hand. He said that users will be able to share special moments from AR experiences with their friends in the form of videos. It is unknown whether these moments can be shared only on Snapchat contacts or with anyone.

As for why the company is not yet ready to sell them to the public, it is because the device is not ready for prime time. One of the major issues is that it lasts only for 30 minutes on a single charge. The team will surely be working on fixing these issues but to ensure that the buzz around the device does not die, it is ready to work with content creators as explained earlier.
Spectacles 4.0 currently features dual 3D waveguide displays with 2000 nits of brightness, four built-in microphones, dual stereo speakers, a touchpad, and dual front-facing RGB cameras. Snap is yet to reveal how much these will cost and when they will become available for everyone but we will keep you updated.
