Kid orphaned by Covid kept at Fit facility

Imphal, May 20 2021: Days after the state government announced its initiative of lodging children, who lost both parents due to Covid-19, in Fit Facilities, a 13-year-old girl from Lamlai assembly constituency has become the first such child to stay at the facility.

The girl child, who lost both her parents, has been kept at Chanura Leikol Children Home, located at Khurai Laishram Leikai.

Two such children have also been reported in Kakching district.

However, the two have been handed over to their respective relatives after they sought custody.

According to social welfare director Ng Uttam, each district has one facility each for girls and boys.

While announcing the initiative on his social media post, chief minister N Biren appealed to the public to inform any such children in their vicinity to 1098 so that proper shelter and rehabilitation services could be given to them.
