CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu agriculture department on Thursday asked farmers to make use of godown facilities in its regulated markets in the state.
An official release said the government was taking efforts to resolve the problems relating to transportation of goods against the backdrop of Covid restrictions.
“Modern godown facilities have been set up in regulated markets, which the farmers could make use of for 180 days. The produce could be sold when they get a good price,” the release said.
Farmers can also avail pledge loan for 75% of the total value of the produce up to a maximum of Rs 3 lakh. The interest rate is 5%.
Farmers are also asked to make use of cold storage facilities that are also available in the markets, besides the cold storage units in the primary processing centres set up under the Tamil Nadu Supply Chain Management Project.
“Farmers could contact the state helpline 044-22253884 for grievances,” the release said.
