Microsoft will retire Internet Explorer in June 2022
NEW DELHI: After more than 25 years, Microsoft is all set to pull the plug on its retiring web browser -- Internet Explorer. The company claims that the ageing web browser has been unused by most consumers for years.

The tech giant will end the support for Internet Explorer on June 15, 2022. "We are announcing that the future of Internet Explorer on Windows 10 is in Microsoft Edge. The Internet Explorer 11 desktop application will be retired and go out of support on June 15, 2022, for certain versions of Windows 10," the company said in an official blog post.

The company also mentions that Microsoft Edge has an IE Mode which will enable the users to experience the web browser. "Microsoft Edge has Internet Explorer mode (“IE mode”) built-in, so you can access those legacy Internet Explorer-based websites and applications straight from Microsoft Edge," add the company.

Last year, Microsoft started the process of killing Internet Explorer. The company ended support for Internet Explorer 11 for the Microsoft Teams web app last year. The company is also planning to cut off the browser from accessing Microsoft 365 services later this year. The Internet Explorer 11 will no longer support Microsoft's online services like OneDrive, Office 365, Outlook and more starting August 17, 2021.

In related news, Microsoft Edge is the second most popular internet browser in the world. According to a report by NetMarketShare, Microsoft Edge has 'edged' Mozilla Firefox into third place and now has a 7.59% market share. Firefox in the third spot has 7.19% market share. Google Chrome remains the undisputed number one internet browser with a whopping 68.5% market share.
