The New York Daily News on Thursday portrayed Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell as a dog on former President Donald Trump, a response to the Kentucky Republican’s opposition to a bipartisan commission to investigate the deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol.
The cover depicted McConnell as “TRUMP’S LI’L MITCH,” and a subheadline read: “Lapdog pol protects Don from riot probe.” Trump was impeached over his role in inciting the Jan. 6 insurrection.
The House voted Wednesday to set up a commission on the Jan. 6 insurrection, potentially setting up a clash in the Senate.
It’s not the first time the New York tabloid has transformed McConnell into an animal on its front page.
In January 2020, it turned the then-Senate majority leader into a chicken following his refusal to allow witnesses to testify in Trump’s impeachment trial over the Ukraine scandal.
