Second wave orphans many children, officials to tackle illegal adoptions

Hyderabad: The second wave of COVID-19 for many proved fatal, with many children orphaned overnight. And for the children who do not attend, the risk of illegal adoption increases.

The Telangana State Commission for the Protection of Children’s Rights (TSCPCR), which has looked into several such cases, asks people to take adoption only after following legal procedures.

The commission is asking officials to keep abreast of illegal adoptions as it could further lead to trafficking in children. They spoke to all the district collectors to consider it a high priority task and gave all the relevant authorities and available instructions to disseminate the information on ‘legal adoptions’ in all departments, among the respective NGOs and the general public.
