With Sony announcing a PS5 patch for The Last of Us Part 2, frame rate and resolution details have finally emerged. According to video game tech analysis site, Digital Foundry, the PS5 is capable of running The Last of Us Part 2 at a “complete 60fps lock”. And while this alone would be heartening for many, don’t expect a boost in terms of resolution. The site claims that The Last of Us Part 2 PS5 resolution is still 2560x1440 aka 1440p.
One interesting difference versus other PS5 game patches released by Sony is that while 60fps is default on the PS5, there’s a menu option allowing users to revert to 30fps if they so choose. As for resolution, it maintains the aforementioned 1440p.
“There is talk of 'enhanced resolution' surrounding this patch, but Sony has confirmed with us that this is part of the suite of features PS5 can bring to PS4 titles running under back-compat, not the TLOU2 patch specifically, which is indeed 1440p locked,” the report claims.
The Last of Us Part 2 PS5 patch download size is a mere 299MB, and is out right now. While the game launched to near universal critical acclaim, many a customer in India found its story divisive resulting in a spate of returns during its launch period, forcing a price drop from many Indian retailers. Perhaps this patch breathes new life into a game that’s been more controversial than what Sony traditionally releases. For what it’s worth, IGN India’s Shunal Doke claimed it’s one of the best games of the PS4 era due to its polished gameplay.
