Chandigarh, May 19
Just about a week after 10 councillors of the Jaito Municipal Council sought the setting aside of proceedings of a meeting held on May 7 for electing the president and vice-president, the Punjab and Haryana High Court today directed the Principal Secretary to personally look into the issue.
The Bench of Justice Ajay Tewari and Justice Rajesh Bhardwaj also asked the Principal Secretary to decide the matter after obtaining a report from the Deputy Commissioner concerned and hearing all petitioners, who may be represented through a counsel.
The petitioners were directed to appear before the Principal Secretary on May 24 or any other specified date. “The respondent-Principal Secretary is directed to pass a speaking order on or before June 7 and place on record the same in the present case on or before the next date of hearing,” the Bench added before fixing the case for further hearing on July 5.
