The Nar Sewa Narayan Sewa Samiti, which has been cremating unclaimed bodies, besides Covid victims, has decided to immerse the ashes of 19 victims lying unclaimed for the past 12 months.
NGO chief Raju Charaya said the complete lockdown, which was started in March last year, had resulted in suspension of train services and also caused financial crunch.
“Due to this, relatives of 19 victims had not come to collect ashes stored in the lockers. As the death rate of Covid-infected people is rising fast, we are preparing to send a team to Haridwar to immerse their ashes. For the past 10 years, we have been cremating unclaimed bodies and have also immersed the ashes if nobody comes to collect those,” he added.
The samiti has now installed new lockers as old ones got damaged and were falling short of space too.
