Fire breaks out at SP Fort Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram; no casualties

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A fire broke out in the canteen of SP Fort hospital at Thiruvananthapuram's East fort area on Thursday morning.
The fire broke out around 9.20am. Chenkalchoola station received the alert around 9.30am.
The patients are being shifted to SP Well Fort hospital. At least four patients in ICU have also been shifted to another hospital.
Two fire force units reached the hospital and doused the fire. The fire force personnel, however, said that they are trying to control the smoke emanating from the hospital block. They are also checking whether the fire has spread to the air-conditioning unit.
No casualties have been reported so far.
Initial reports suggested that the fire originated from the kitchen of the canteen, the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
Recently, Ravinder Gupta, Chief electrical inspector to the Government of India, sent a letter to all the chief electrical inspectors in the states on compliance of measures related to safety and electric supply to prevent fire incidents in hospitals, Covid centres and hotels. He had referred to fire incidents in hospitals in Mumbai and Rajkot in the communication.
