City reports less than 1.5k new cases for second day, active cases dip too

Gurgaon: The city reported less than 1,500 fresh Covid-19 cases for the second consecutive day on Tuesday. A total of 1,247 cases were recorded on Tuesday, bringing the caseload to 1,74,938.
The city now has 19,947 active cases. The last time Gurgaon had less than 20,000 active cases was on April 19, when it reported 18,119 active cases. Since then, the figure has been rising daily.
Tuesday’s positivity rate stood as 16%. As many as 14 deaths were reported on the day, taking the toll to 710. Gurgaon also saw the recovery of 3,210 patients, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,54,281. The recovery rate stands at 86% at present, while the fatality rate is 0.4%.
A total of 18,002 patients are currently in home isolation, 1,897 admitted in hospitals (severe cases) and 48 in district Covid care centres (mild cases).
“We have been conducting the same number of tests every day, but the numbers are declining as private labs are conducting less tests. They are getting fewer requests since people are not going for tests as the symptoms have declined,” said Dr Virender Yadav, chief medical officer (CMO), Gurgaon.
Meanwhile, 95 people were sent to institutional quarantine facilities on Tuesday. So far, 14,37,698 people have been put under surveillance in the city.
In the past 24 hours, the health authorities have collected 7,661 samples for antigen and RT-PCR tests. Till now, 14,25,112 samples have been sent for testing, of which 12,42,513 returned negative while the results of 2,813 are awaited.
