Complete lockdown in Chikkamagaluru

Considering the increase in cases of COVID-19, Chikkamagaluru district administration has imposed a complete lockdown from 10 a.m. on Thursday to 6 a.m. on Monday (May 24). Deputy Commissioner K.N. Ramesh announced this in a press conference in Chikkamaglauru on Wednesday.

All shops, commercial activities, and industries will remain closed during this period. The marriages, for which people have already taken permission, will go on, however, with the participation of only 10 people. No other cultural, social or religious event would be allowed during these days. Only five people would be allowed to take part in funerals. During the lockdown, only medical emergency activities would be allowed. Those engaged in essential and emergency services have to show relevant records at the check-posts, the DC said.

Those people visiting the district should undergo 14-day quarantine. They have to furnish details of the place where they would stay, at the checkposts, he said.

There would be no restriction on the movement of officers and staff members engaged in medical and emergency services. Those visiting clinics and hospitals have to carry medical prescription slips. The public visiting government offices had been restricted. The staff members of Revenue, Rural Development, urban local bodies, Health Department, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department, Police, Home Guards, Civil Defence, and Fire and Emergency Services would be allowed to travel. The government servants have to carry identity cards. Except for these departments, others could work from home, the Deputy Commissioner said.

The officer said that there would be no restriction on construction work by engaging people staying put at the workplace. Similarly, there would be no restriction on plantation works in estates. However, the movement of workers would not be allowed. The plantation estates could get the work done from workers in their quarters within the estates.

Superintendent of Police Akshay M. Hakay said there would be a total restriction on the movement of private vehicles. The public have to purchase milk from the nearest booth. There would be no restriction on the transport of goods.
