PUNE: The Pimpri Chinchwad police on Monday arrested a 21-year-old man, running a religious and cultural academic institution, on the charge of sodomising an 11-year-old student on May 14.
The incident came to light on May 16, when the boy had gone home and refused to return to the institution after narrating his ordeal to his mother.
The woman on Monday night filed an FIR against the suspect with the Alandi police. The man has been arrested under section 377 (unnatural offence) of the Indian Penal Code and the relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
"He was produced before the court on Tuesday and has been remanded to police custody for four days," sub-inspector Ajay Lohekar of the Alandi police.
Lohekar told TOI, "The suspect was illegally running the religious and cultural academic institution in Alandi for past two years. At present 15 students are staying and learning there."
He said that the boy had started going there for the last two months.
"According to the complainant, on May 14, when all the other students were going out for study, the suspect had told the boy to wait inside one of the rooms. The suspect then sodomised the boy and also threatened not to disclose it to anyone," Lohekar said.
He said that the police are now probing whether the suspect had sodomised any other student from the institution, Lohekar said.
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect his privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
