South Africa recorded 2 355 new Covid-19 infections by Tuesday and 80 new Covid-19-related deaths, taking the official death toll to 55 340.
According to a statement by Health Minister Zweli Mkhize, as of Tuesday the country recorded a total of 1 617 840 confirmed Covid-19 cases.

The total number of healthcare workers vaccinated under the Sisonke protocol is 479 768. These vaccinations were with the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine and are therefore completed vaccinations.
As of Tuesday, the total number of people vaccinated in phase two of the country's rollout programme is 39 371. These vaccinations were with the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine.
Gauteng recorded the most confirmed active cases with 8 155, followed by the Northern Cape with 6 209 and the Free State with 5 964.
The recovery rate is 94.4% and 1 527 968 recoveries have been recorded.
To date, 11 166 950 tests have been completed, with 32 397 tests conducted in the latest 24-hour cycle, Mkhize said.

Mkhize also reported a further 80 Covid-19-related deaths, of which 32 were recorded in Gauteng, 22 in the Free State, nine in the Western Cape, six in Limpopo, six in the Eastern Cape and five in KwaZulu-Natal.
This brings the total to 55 340 official deaths.
The Free State and Gauteng have been back-capturing deaths for April and May as part of their auditing processes, Mkhize explained.
"We convey our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the healthcare workers who treated the deceased," Mkhize said.
