The Telangana government on Tuesday extended the lockdown in the state till May 30 to contain the surge of Covid-19 infections. However, the state government, in its order allowed activities for four hours daily between 6 AM to 10 AM.
The ongoing lockdown which began on May 12 was supposed to end by May 22, according to an earlier official order. The extension of the lockdown comes in the wake of surging cases of Covid-19 in the state.
A statement from the Chief Minister’s Office said that K. Chandrasekhar Rao has decided to extend lockdown after speaking with ministers over the phone took their opinion on the lockdown extension. However, it must be noted that the ministers are busy monitoring measures to curtail the spread of Covid-19 infections and ensuring medical supplies at the field level, according to the note. In this situation, the CM canceled the cabinet meeting scheduled for May 20, to review the lockdown, and instructed Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar to issue a Government Order on the extension of the lockdown.
Meanwhile, the state government on Tuesday decided to implement the Center’s Ayushman Bharat (PM Jana Arogya Yojna) in Telangana, almost two-and-a-half years after the scheme was launched nationwide.
Telangana on Tuesday reported 3,982COVID-19 cases taking the tally to over 5.36 lakh while the toll stood at 3,012 with 27 casualties.

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for the most number of cases with 607, followed by Rangareddy (262) and Khammam (247). The total number of cumulative cases in the state stood at 5,36,766 while with 5,186being cured, the total recoveries were at 4,85,644.
