In a first since the onset of the pandemic in March 2020, Tamil Nadu on Tuesday reported the highest number of new cases in the country with 33,059 people testing positive. While the cumulative Covid tally of the state stood at 16,64,350, the number of new cases has been declining. The death count, however, continued to increase with another 364 people succumbing to the infection across TN in the past 24 hours. Oxygen generation at the Sterlite plant in Tuticorin that was halted due to a technical snag last week resumed in the early hours of Wednesday. There are two oxygen plants at Sterlite that have a combined capacity of 1,050 tonne per day. After getting permission from the Supreme Court, Sterlite began oxygen production in one unit on Wednesday last. But on Thursday night, a technical snag developed in the cold box at the oxygen plant, leading to a temporary halt in production.
TN govt starts selling Remdesivir directly to pvt hospitals
The Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday started selling Remdesivir, the anti viral drug useful in treating Covid-19 patiemts, directly to private hospitals. Karur Vysya Bank donates Rs 3.29 crore to support fight against Covid-19 in Tamil Nadu
Private lender Karur Vysya Bank has donated a total of Rs 3.29 crore so far during the second wave of Covid-19 in Tamil Nadu. Bank MD and CEO B Ramesh Babu has handed over a demand draft for Rs 1 crore to minister of electricity, prohibition & excise V Senthil Balaji recently to support the state’s efforts to contain Covid-19. The Rs 1 crore includes a Rs 15 lakh donation by the bank to install an oxygen generator unit at the Coimbatore General Hospital.
