We are doing nearly three times more Google search and study to understand the damage done to the Indian environment and biodiversity. More than twice as many species of plants and animals have started worrying about them. The search for products that cause less harm to nature has also increased by about 71% in the last five years.
These claims have been made by the Economic Intelligence Unit of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in the new research. According to this report released in the context of International Biodiversity Day, between 2016 and 2020, the number of citizens who have raised concerns about the environment has increased by 16% all over the world. Citizens are becoming more conscious in developing countries. It is named 'Eco Awakening'. They understand the consequences of destroying the ecosystem.
Digital activism increased
65% more environmental issues are being discussed on Twitter itself. The use of terms like nature and biodiversity has increased from thirty million to five.
Many politicians, religious leaders, and other influential personalities and organizations are talking about this, bringing the message of environmental protection to more than 100 crore people.

15,00,000 tweets on biodiversity destruction topics in 2020 as against 2,32,000 tweets in 2016 on Twitter.
4.80 lakh citizens signed up for the voice campaign.
In 2016, 1,33,888 articles were published on these topics in newspapers, the figure reached 1,68,556 in 2020.
The result was seen in October 2020, when the Maharashtra government declared the forests called Aare as protected.
