MEMORANDUM ON A HEINOUS CRIME

Greetings from World Meetei Convention (WMC)!

We, WMC congratulate you on becoming Chief Minister of Assam!

The Meetei (Manipuri) community settled in Assam are very hopeful that every communities will get fair and equal treatment under your able leadership. It would not be out of turn to remind you with utmost humility that Meetei community is one of most downtrodden and insecure communities in Assam.

It is indeed regrettable that, at this exuberant moment, to bring to your kind notice of one unfortunate incident of gang rape of a Meetei(Manipuri) woman which occurred on 09/05/2021 at Ghungoor Police, Cachar District in the wee hour. This incident has already made its way to various social media platforms.

Seemingly, the investigation is going on. However, as minority community and the victim involved is a simple sanitation worker, a widow with two minor children, apprehends that there may be involvement of influential people to cover up the offenders of this heinous crime.

It is imperative that such outrageous incident may not be recurred in future. In such circumstances, your kind attention is drawn to this inhumane and ghastly act.

I, therefore, on behalf of WMC, request your good-self to kindly cause an investigation without political or any other undue interference and punish those involved in the interest of the State.
