CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government will erect a statue in memory of eminent Tamil writer Ki Rajanarayanan in his native village Edaiseval in Tuticorin district. Chief minister M K Stalin made an announcement in this regard on Tuesday.
Ki Rajanarayanan, popularly known as Ki Ra who popularized karisal (black soil) literature worldwide, passed away in Puducherry on Monday night due to age-related illnesses. He was 98.
Stalin said the government would renovate the Edaiseval Panchayat Union Middle School, where Ki Ra had studied, without losing its architectural and heritage values and convert it into a museum in his memory. The museum will house his rare photographs and his works to enable the public and students to learn about his literary skills.
Stalin said the last rites ceremony of the writer would be held with state honours on Wednesday.
