Dakshina Kannada district police passed away due to Covid 4.30am on Tuesday at RM Jalappa hospital,
Kolar. She was seven months pregnant. Due to pregnancy she was not vaccinated," said Dakshina Kannada superintendent of police Rishikesh Sonawane.
She joined DK police on January 11 this year and had gone on leave to her hometown Kolar. She was admitted to Jalappa Hospital, Kolar on May 2 for Covid treatment. SP Kolar paid personal attention in her hospitalisation and treatment, he said.
Meanwhile, DGP Praveen Sood tweeted, "Youngest member of the police family to succumb to Covid. The 24-year-old PSI Shamili of Kolar, attached to DK district lost her battle with Covid. May her soul rest in peace. But it could be any of us. Please cooperate with police, stay home and stay safe."
Currently, there are 12 active Covid-19 cases among DK police. On setting up Covid care centres, SP said, “If need arises, we will set up isolation centres at taluk level. At present the personnel are under home isolation and are being monitored daily.”
