Wrestler Murder case: Sushil Kumar moves court for anticipatory bail, Delhi police declare reward for information

Recently, Delhi police have announced Rs 1 lakh reward for any information that leads to Kumar's arrest. And, Rs 50, 000 for information about his associate Ajay, who is also on the run in the same case.

India’s two-time Olympic medalist Sushil Kumar on Tuesday moved a Delhi court seeking anticipatory bail in connection with the murder of 23-year-old Sagar Rana at Chhatrasal Stadium in Delhi. 

Kumar has been on the run since the death of Sagar on May 5. Following which a look-out notice was issued against the senior wrestler after a case of murder, abduction and criminal conspiracy was registered against him by the Delhi police. 

Recently, Delhi police have announced Rs 1 lakh reward for any information that leads to his arrest. And, Rs 50, 000 for information about his associate Ajay, who is also on the run in the same case. Last week, a Delhi court had issued non-bailable warrants against Sushil Kumar and six others in connection with the same case.

Earlier, Delhi Police had conducted raids in his house, Delhi-NCR region and neighbouring states to nab the senior wrestler, but they returned empty-handed.It has emerged that Kumar went to Haridwar and then to Rishikesh while trying to escape an arrest.

The incident of a brawl among wrestlers was reported on May 4, in which some wrestlers were injured and they had to be admitted to a hospital and one of them died during treatment. According to the police, the clash had taken place over vacating a flat in the Model Town area, which involved Kumar, Ajay, Prince Dalal, Sonu, Sagar, Amit and others.

The wrestler who died was 23 years old. He and two of his friends were brutally assaulted allegedly by other wrestlers inside the Chhatrasal Stadium. The victims have alleged that Kumar was present at the spot when the clash took place. However, Kumar had denied the allegation saying that he and his wrestlers were not involved in the fight that took place inside Chhatrasal Stadium.

Meanwhile, Kumar is seen as one of the most successful athletes in the country as he won a silver medal in the 2012 London Olympics, and four years earlier, he had taken home a bronze medal in Beijing Olympics.
