Original (May 6th, 2021)

Krafton, the popular gaming studio behind PUBG, has announced Battlegrounds Mobile India as the new battle royal mobile game for the Indian market. This new title will take place of the PUBG Mobile India game that was speculated to arrive sometime this year. The company has also released the new logo and a short teaser video for the upcoming game.

The official press release from Krafton says that Battlegrounds Mobile India will deliver a "world-class AAA multiplayer gaming experience on mobile". This is a game developed exclusively for Indian users after the PUBG Mobile (global version) was banned by the Indian government last year. The ban on the game was part of the move where authorities were concerned about the safety of the Indian citizens who were using Chinese applications. This is the reason people behind PUBG Mobile started off by cutting ties with Tencent.

The new game is now said to come with "exclusive in-game events like outfits and features and will have its own esports ecosystem with tournaments and leagues". This suggests that the team is working on creating a new brand identity of the game and keeping itself as far away as possible from the PUBG branding.

A release date for Battlegrounds Mobile India has not been mentioned yet but the press release says there will be pre-registrations ahead of the launch. It is currently labeled as "Coming Soon" but PUBG fans in India would still remember what happened late last year. The game was originally set to arrive in India around Diwali i.e. November 2020.

It even launched three teasers and a fully-fledged trailer featuring eSports players Jonathan Amaral aka Jonathan, Chetan Chandgude aka Kronten, and Aditya Sawant aka Dynamo but the game launch still ended up getting delayed. We will have to wait and see if everything will go as per the company's plans or there will be some more hiccups.
