$3 million is more than enough for me and realistic. $2 million is doable.
I'm not financially savvy, but $3 million should bring in something like $80k/yr if you invest right. With the house paid off and cheap property tax, your living expenses wouldn't be no more than $1500/month. Would also get a part time gig working 24hours/week

If you want to substitute a working income, it's less about how much cash you have and more about the assets you own. That's why companies and government jobs provide retirement plans that involve investment in financial products.
This includes investment in things like mutual funds, rental properties, stocks, and bonds. If it's just cash that isn't generating any additional income, then you need enough to sustain your needs. That really depends on your expenses and lifestyle.Beans, cleans, gasoline

There are people like the hermit monks of the Chinese Zhongnan Mountains that live on zero money, the ones that use money can get by with less than 10 dollars a month.
How much money you "need" really depends on your lifestyle and choices.
It's easier to need less money than it is to sustain an excessive lifestyle, this is the value of simple living.Beans, cleans, gasoline
