GUWAHATI: Covid-19 situation in
Assam is showing signs of
improvement with lower
positivity rate and decline in daily cases in last 24 hours, despite 73 deaths on Tuesday.
Kamrup (
Metropolitan) district- where the daily numbers have been highest among all districts in the state- for the first time since April 26, has registered less than 1,000 cases (921 cases) on Tuesday.
Total 5,835 new cases were detected across the state in the day with an improved positivity rate of 6.47 percent.
The positivity rate slipped to 6.99 percent Monday from 8.51 percent registered on Sunday.
Some health officials said that the the decline in the number of cases and positivity after conducting more than 90,000 tests is a positive outcome, even as the recovery rate marginally declined to 85.31 percent from 85.50 percent recorded the previous day.
Considering 6,394 new cases were detected on Monday and highest Covid death toll of 92 on the same day, health officials said the situation was relieving on Tuesday.
The spokespersons of the
state health department were unresponsive on the trend but doctors in the leading hospitals in the city said that situation seems to be improving, especially in Kamrup (Metropolitan) and
Guwahati city areas. "Daily 1,600 cases were being detected from greater Guwahati around a week ago. Comparatively it's a noticeable improvement when daily cases has come down to nearly 900 a day. But stricter rules on movement of people must continue to keep this lowering trend going in right direction," said
Gauhati Medical College Hospital principal, Achyut Baishya.
