A 26-year-old man died of Covid-19 five days after his
wedding in
Kendrapada district on Saturday. He had returned from Bangalore on May 7 where he was working in a private company. Sanjay Kumar
Nayak of Durgapdevipada village under the Rajkanika police station limits had fever even before his wedding on May 10.
Three days later, he tested positive and was in home quarantine. But his condition deteriorated on Saturday and his family members rushed him to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. He died on the way, said Dr Bibek
Rout, medical officer at the community health centre of Rajkanika.
Following his death, a medical team went to Durgadevipada village on Sunday and collected the swab samples of five of his family members. “Investigation is on to determine how many people attended the wedding and efforts are on to trace their contacts. A medical camp has been set up in the village to test other people for
Covid,” Rout added.
“Nayak was unwell after returning from Bangalore. On the day of the wedding, he had high fever. But the family members of both the groom and the bride insisted on holding the wedding as they had already spent a huge amount of money. Many villagers and relatives are now in a state of panic following Nayak’s death,” said a relative of the deceased.
