New Delhi, May 15 (KNN) India's wholesale price inflation (WPI) has climbed to 10.49 per cent in April compared to 7.39 per cent that was recorded last month in March.

''The annual rate of inflation in April 2021 is high primarily because of the rise in prices of crude petroleum, mineral oils viz petrol, diesel etc, and manufactured products as compared to the corresponding month of the previous year,'' an official statement said on Monday.

In April, primary articles inflation rose 10.16 per cent year-on-year and 3.83 per cent over the preceding month.

Prices of food articles rose 4.92 per cent year-on-year and 3.84 per cent over March while Fuel and power index rose 20.94 per cent year-on-year but contracted 1 per cent over March.

According to the statement, manufactured products inflation rose 9.01 per cent year-on-year and 1.65 per cent over the preceding month.

“The monthly rate of inflation, based on month over month movement of WPI index, in April 2021 stood at 1.86 per cent (provisional) as compared to March 2021," the ministry said.

The Reserve Bank of India earlier flagged hardening of input prices partly due to rising global commodity prices as a concern.
