If you've been scrolling through Aditi Rao Hydari's Instagram, you'll know that even when she experiments with makeup look, she's keeping her glowy, peaches-and-cream skin front and centre. “I have no idea what's trending; I just do what works. I don't like overdone styles in makeup, hair or dressing... for me, it's important to be effortless, however dressed up I may actually be,” is Rao Hydari's major philosophy. Here's how she does it.

1) Shape and fill in your brows

In the ’90s, Rao Hydari over-tweezed her eyebrows to create a barely-there, thin eyebrow shape that was very popular at the time. “Plucking my eyebrows when I was younger despite my mum advising me not to,” is what she considers her biggest beauty regret. But with time, the actor has been able to grow her brows again. She fills in any sparse spots with an eyebrow pencil, creating thick, brushed up arches every time she steps out.

2) Try lipsticks in unexpected shades

Orange lipstick may seem a little intimidating, but the warm hue actually makes for a vibrant and bright shade that'll look great on your skin tone. Same goes for a lavender shade, which can feel intense, but lands up really upgrading your beauty look. Whether you're wearing a stain under your mask, or relying on a bold liquid lipstick on your Zoom call, a swipe of lipstick can serve as a true confidence booster right now.

3) Smudge your liner for a softer approach

When it comes to her makeup, Rao Hydari has a makeup go-to—"I like to use liner and neutral brown eyeshadow to define the eyes, a swipe of mascara to open them up, and well-defined brows to round out the look," she shared. She may not like graphic cat eyes, but she accentuates her eyes by using eyeliners and eyeshadows in nude and brown shades, often smudging them out to soften it out. For a similar result, take a fluffy brush and work back and forth on the liner to smudge it section by section.

4) Blend (and then blend again)

Rao Hydari's base makeup always looks very natural, and she does this by blending her foundation and concealer with her fingers, leaving brushes and blenders to the side. “I'm going to put concealer under the eyes with my hands because when I do it with my fingers, it's the lightest. Just cover what needs to be covered,” she shared in an interview. Even if she's adding highlighter or blush, Rao Hydari likes to use melt-in formulas that look lit-from-within on her skin, rather than powdery and cakey on the surface.

5) Monochrome makeup will always be a good idea

Not sure you want to figure out how to match your lipstick shade to your eyeshadow hue? Take a cue from Rao Hydari and pick just one colour: “Just a dab of pink on the lips and cheeks, and I'm good to go,” she shared. She even took the same shade across her lids, which puts everything together in the most complementary manner.
