Vidya Balan shares first look of Sherni, film to release on Amazon Prime in June

The film also stars Sharad Saxena, Neeraj Kabi, Mukul Chaddha, Vijay Raaz, Ila Arun, and Brijendra Kala in pivotal roles.

Actor Vidya Balan on Monday shared her first look from the upcoming film Sherni. The film is set for release on Amazon Prime Video in June, the actor announced on social media.

Sharing the first look poster  on Twitter, Balan wrote, Meet Sherni on Prime in June. Directed by Amit Masurkar, the film features the actor as a righteous forest officer who strives for balance between animal preservation and human encroachment over their natural habitat. 

Describing her character, the actor wrote, Fearless as she steps out into the world! Happy to announce my latest film Sherni. In the poster, she can be seen sporting an olive green shirt and her hair tied in a bun. She is holding a walkie-talkie as she is seen through a target of a sniper or a human predator.

The Amazon original movie is written by Aarti Tiku and co-produced by T-Series and Abundantia Entertainment. The film also stars Sharad Saxena, Neeraj Kabi, Mukul Chaddha, Vijay Raaz, Ila Arun, and Brijendra Kala in pivotal roles.

The shooting of Sherni was paused last year due to the nationwide lockdown in light of the coronavirus. Balan, along with the film’s team, resumed the shooting schedule in October last year following strict bio-bubble protocols in the forests of Madhya Pradesh.

Masurkar is well known for directing Newton, which starred Rajkummar Rao in the lead role. The movie was a social commentary on the election system of the country. The movie was released in 2017. VBesides it, he has also directed the 2014 movie Sulemani Keeda.

Meanwhile, Balan  was last seen playing the role of Shakuntala Devi in a biopic that was also released on Amazon Prime last year. In the film, she played mathematics  genius who otherwise struggled in her personal life as a wife and a mother.
