Fake exam schedule baffle students, UP board calls it bogus, to lodge FIR against guilty

LUCKNOW: On Monday afternoon, while 16-year-old Zoya Warsi was checking her Whatsapp, one message left her confused. It was about the new dates of UP board class 10 examinations. As per the time-table attached, the exams were to be held between June 5 and 25. For a moment, Zoya gave rest to her apprehensions. But even before she could sink, her friend Anaya called up and expressed her doubt in the exam schedule.
“There was a spelling error in the schedule. The word June was written incorrectly which raised brows. After cross checking with teachers, we found it bogus," Zoya said.
Not only Zoya but trouble for lakhs of registered candidates started on Monday afternoon when a false information regarding the announcement of new dates of class 10 and 12 exam by Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik ShikshaParishad (UPMSP) went viral on social media triggering panic among the student community.
Issuing a denial, the UPMSP secretary Divya Kant Shukla notified the general public that the time-table related to conducting high school and intermediate examinations of the year 2021 between June 5, 2021 and June 25, 2021 circulating on WhatsApp is absolutely fake.
“No revised schedule has been issued by the Board. Candidates are advised to ignore it. We are initiating the process of lodging an FIR against those spreading fake news,” read the notice.
Later, a clarification came from the secondary education department saying that the UP Board has not issued any timetable for the high school and intermediate examinations.
Nearly 56 lakh students are registered to appear in the UP Board exams, which were deferred on April 15 following a surge in Covid cases across the state. “We are still exploring various possibilities,” said an official.
The UP government had on April 15 decided to postpone both class 10 and 12 exams of the UP board scheduled from April 24. In view of the panchayat elections, the exams were rescheduled from May 8 but was later put on hold due to rise in Covid-19 cases in the state.
This year, 29.9 lakh examinees, including 16.7 boys and 13.2 girls, have registered for the high school examination. Likewise, 26 lakh examinees, including 14.7 boys and 11.3 girls, have registered for intermediate exams. The class 10 exams are supposed to go on for 12 working days and conclude on May 25. Likewise, the class 12 exams will be completed in 15 working days and end on May 28.
Last year, the UP Board exams began on February 18 and concluded in the first week of March before the lockdown.
