Two of the top scorers in Southeast Texas high school soccer have capped record-setting careers with recognition as the region’s best players.
When Port-Neches-Groves scored this season, Jason Lovejoy usually had something to do with it. He’s the Beaumont Enterprise Super Gold Boys Player of the Year after piling up 31 goals and leading all of Class 5A with 35 assists.
Vidor’s Brooklyn Healy was equally as important to her Pirates team. The senior forward scored 26 goals to go along with 13 assists, earning the Beaumont Enterprise Girls Super Gold Player of the Year award.
It’s Healy’s first time winning the award, while Lovejoy has done so three times now. Both players have put up gaudy numbers not just as seniors, but during the entire four-year careers.
Lovejoy has surpassed the 100 mark in both goals and assists while playing for PN-G.
Healy is Vidor’s all-time leading scorer with 107 career goals and 52 assists.
However, both players were at their best during their final seasons. Lovejoy led PN-G to a playoff spot out of District t 21-5A, while Healy carried Vidor to a second-place finish in 21-4A.
