Two terrorists killed in encounter in J&K's Pulwama

SRINAGAR: Two Al-Badr terrorists were killed in Khonmoh village of Srinagar during an encounter with security forces, J&K police said on Monday.
Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said the slain duo were locals.
The IGP said that Srinagar police had received a tip-off on Sunday evening about the terrorists.
"The police, Army and the CRPF laid a siege in Khonmoh area where the terrorists were hiding. They refused to surrender even after being repeatedly asked to do so,” the IGP said.
“Both were killed in an encounter, which started this morning. The slain terrorists belonged to the Al-Badr outfit,” he added.
Kumar also said that Khonmoh and Khrew are connected with the Tral belt of Pulwama district and the stretch often witnesses terror movements.
The IGP said that five terrorists, active in Srinagar, are being tracked.
There is a vast network of over ground workers (OGWs) in the district and many such workers have been arrested, he said, adding that the C-category OGWs are being counseled and handed over to their families.
“There were six active terrorists in Srinagar. One of them was recently killed in a gunfight in Anantnag district's Kokernag. At present, there are five local terrorists active in Srinagar who will either be killed or apprehended,” Kumar told reporters at Pantha Chowk in Srinagar.
Asked whether there was any foreign terrorist active in Srinagar, he said that inputs about such movements keep pouring in, but as of now “no foreign terrorist is permanently active in Srinagar".
IGP Kumar further said that IEDs are turning out to be a major challenge for security forces, but the forces are "effectively" dealing with the threat.
