It’s no surprise that Valorant is one of India’s most popular competitive games, and it appears that tournament organisers are taking notice. Recent social media posts from Bengaluru-based company, The Esports Club teased India’s biggest Valorant event. It promises the highest prize pool, highest first place prize pool, dedicated amateur qualifier prize pool, as well as individual player awards.
Considering that none of the teasers surrounding this are on Riot’s official social media accounts, safe to say this isn’t related to the possible Valorant Champions Tour’s India debut. We reached out to The Esports Club for comment and we’ll update this story if we hear from the company.
This follows The Esports Club’s Call of Duty: Warzone tournament which was also dubbed the biggest in the nation when it took place in February this year.
Valorant’s India Popularity and Riot Games
Previously, Riot Games admitted to IGN India that Valorant’s popularity in the country has led it to consider options to serve its burgeoning player base in country.
At the time we stated that Riot was looking to give India a spot in the Valorant Champions Tour and we reached out to Riot for comment regarding this. The company responded with the following:
“Riot Games is committed to bringing esports opportunities for Valorant players worldwide,” said a Riot spokesperson to IGN India over email. “At this time we are evaluating how to best serve our community in India who has shown an incredible amount of interest in competing both domestically and on the international stage.”
In somewhat related Valorant news, it appears that the competitive shooter would be making its way to Android and iOS. Sources at the company tell IGN India that Valorant Mobile as its tentatively named, is on the way with the gaming giant trying to gauge which markets it would work in. Given that the company is looking into which regions Valorant would be a good fit, it suggests that we may be close to an actual announcement.
