PMK wants TN govt to take over Chengalpattu integrated vaccine complex & produce COVID vaccines

Chennai, May 16 (UNI) As the Tamil Nadu government is exploring
all possible avenues to get COVID vaccines, PMK Youth Wing leader
and Rajya Sabha member Dr Anbumani Ramadoss today urged the
State government to take over the Integrated Vaccine complex at
Chengalpattu for producing vaccines.
In a letter to Health Minister Ma Subramanian, he said the state
government should take over the complex, complete the remaining
work on a fast track basis and produce vaccines, including for
COVID-19.
He wanted the State government to initiate talks with the Centre,
sign an MOU to take over the complex and make Tamil Nadu a
hub for vaccine supply.
He said 90 per cent of the work in the complex was over and the
State needs to spend only a few hundred crores--which will be less
when compared to the amount required to source the COVID-19
vaccines--to commission the complex.
Dr Anbumani said the facility can produce seven different types of
vaccines--Liquid Pentavalent Vaccine (LPV), Hepatitis-B-Vaccine,
Haemophilus Influenza Type B, Rabies Vaccine, Japanese Encephalitis
E Vaccine, BCG Vaccine and Measles and Rubella Vaccine, besides
the COVID-19 vaccine, needed in India and the world.
The Tamil Nadu government had already urged the Centre to take
immediate steps to commission the complex for producing COVID
vaccine drugs.
