Hyderabad: The second Covid-19 golf in the country is known for its potential to spread rapidly in a community and infect a large portion of the local population. Due to the rapidly spreading nature and to control the increasing number of new infections, the state government instituted lockdown across Telangana.
However, there is a clear risk that the new variant of the SARS-CoV-2 will increase unnoticed if people do not take the precautions between 06:00 and 10:00. The relaxation period in the early morning hours to enable households to purchase essential goods, but has now become a concern for health officials, pointing out that the gains made during the exclusion can be easily wiped out during the relaxation period.
“The closure of last year was complete and successful because the authorities were able to effectively break the transmission chains. This year, the authorities allowed businesses to operate between 06:00 and 10:00. As a result, the markets are packed everywhere, ”said Ramesh Kuthumbaka, a senior lawyer in the Supreme Court.
The leisure window from 06:00 to 10:00 is only meant to make purchases that are most important to a household. ‘We have received reports that a large number of individuals venture unnecessarily during leisure time. We open four hours to enable people to buy essential groceries for households. It will not be used to stay indoors for 20 hours if we are going to make visits to places for mass gatherings in the remaining four hours. Only one individual in a family should go out during recreation, ‘says Dr G Srinivasa Rao, Director of Public Health (DPH).
There is also a rush among people to buy alcohol, leading to crowds outside wine shops in Hyderabad. A similar rush is also visible outside hardware and electrical stores selling construction equipment and materials in retail and wholesale.
‘The virus spreads very fast and infects many people during the second wave. Even the results or prognosis of the infected differ from individual to person. The second phase is very different, and I urge people in Hyderabad not to underestimate it, ”said Superintendent Dr B Nagender, Osmania General Hospital (OGH).
