ESB, the predominantly state-owned electricity company, is part of a partnership that has submitted plans to develop a large wind farm in Scotland, which if successful could represent an investment of up to £220m (€255m).
he partnership is between Coriolis Energy and ESB. With offices in Glasgow, Coriolis Energy is a renewable energy developer and has delivered 15 renewable energy projects across the UK.
Coriolis Energy and ESB submitted the plans to the Scottish Government for the 37-turbine Garvary Wind Farm last week.
The partnership would develop the planned project on the Garvary and Achinduich Estates, which is based in the north of Scotland, with a capacity of 222MW – enough to power almost 190,000 Scottish homes each year.
The Garvary Wind Farm includes a proposed community benefit package of £5,000 per MW of installed capacity (index-linked), which would generate over £1.1m per year for the project’s lifetime.
Irish utility company ESB has invested in other significant renewable energy projects in Scotland.
In 2019, ESB confirmed it had agreed a deal to acquire a 50pc stake in a Scottish offshore wind farm project which was owned by Électricité de France (EDF).
French utility EDF bought the wind farm from Eddie O’Connor’s Mainstream Renewable Power for over €600m the previous year.
