Three suspects have been arrested for the murder of a 76-year-old man in Hartenbos.

The man was reported missing on Friday by friends, said police spokesperson Sergeant Christopher Spies.

Spies added that the identity of the victim could not be divulged as the "investigation into this matter is at a sensitive stage".

Police officers spotted the victim's vehicle on Louis Fourie Road near the entrance to Hartenbos at about 03:00 on Saturday.

"They brought the Toyota Yaris with three occupants to a halt. Upon enquiring, the trio were unable to account for their possession of the man's vehicle. The three suspects, aged [between] 27 and 35, were subsequently arrested on a charge of possession of suspected stolen property," said Spies.

Further investigation led police officers to the home of the victim, in De Goeie Hoop Avenue, later on Saturday.

Spies said:

Upon arrival, the police found the body of the man with head injuries. He was declared dead by paramedics on scene.

"A case of murder was opened for further police investigation. The motive for the killing is yet to be determined. The trio remain in custody. They are facing charges of murder and possession of stolen property."
