A KwaZulu-Natal fisherman drowned at Westbrook Beach, north of Durban, on Sunday.
According to Netcare 911, the man disappeared in the water while trying to catch crayfish.
"He was a fisherman and had tried to dive deeper to catch crayfish. Reports from the man's dive partner suggest that the cray fisherman got into difficulty while diving. He had disappeared from sight and a search was initiated to locate him," Netcare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst said.
Efforts by paramedics to resuscitate him after being recovered from the water were unsuccessful.
