Aurangabad / Mumbai, May 15 (UNI) Former chief minister and Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday wrote to Sonia Gandhi urging the Congress president to give sound advice to the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi government in the state, in which Congress is an alliance partner, pertaining to the handling of Covid situation.
In a letter to Ms Gandhi that has been posted on his Twitter account, he said certain things about the current scenario were needed to be brought to her notice in wake of her suggestions to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He noted that the handling of the pandemic in Maharashtra cannot be ignored and said the state accounted for 22 per cent corona cases, 14 per cent active cases and 31 per cent deaths.
The Opposition leader further stated that the MVA government was blaming the Centre for hiding their own failures.
Mr Fadnavis accused the state government of having failed to announce any relief package for the poor, farmers and underprivileged sections of the society during the period of strict restrictions, which have been extended up to May 31.
It seems that the MVA government has turned a blind eye to the backward regions of Marathwada, Vidarbha and North Maharashtra, where no help has been rendered so far, he said.
In rural areas, neither beds nor treatment is available in hospitals, he said and informed that people have to struggle for Remdesivir and oxygen.
Mr Fadnavis said it was the duty of the Opposition to offer suggestions but efforts were on to create an atmosphere of negativity.
Merely criticising the central government was not going to offer anything, he said and urged the Congress chief to have a look at what's happening in the states where the party is in power.
"I hope you will be able to understand the current situation in Maharashtra," he added.
